DHANGADI, OCTOBER 27

Kailali District Court has handed down life imprisonment to nine people for killing two policemen in Jugeda Village in the southern part of Dhangadi Sub-metropolitan City, Kailali.

A single bench of Justice Jayananda Paneru delivered the verdict sentencing Rajendra Rana, Rohit Rana aka Parku, Raj Kumar Rana aka Gabbar, Suresh Rana, Ram Niwas Rana, Dalaram Rana aka Tallu, Rohit Rana and Ram Gopal Rana of Dhangadi Sub-metropolitan City.

According to the record keeper at District Court Raibhan Kunjeda, the court handed down life sentence to those involved in the murder of two policemen.

All the accused had been remanded to custody during the investigation. Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Govinda BK and police constable Ram Bahadur Saud had disappeared while they were patrolling along the border area on October 17 last year.

The bodies of the disappeared police personnel were later found in the Mohana River along the Nepal-India border. Police investigation concluded that the police personnel were murdered when they tried to stop smugglers from taking food items mainly beans to India illegally.

Rajiv Gupta, a businessman from Dhangadi, who was also accused in the murder case, has been acquitted by the court, record keeper Kunjeda said.
