RAUTAHAT, SEPTEMBER 8

Nine years on, construction of a bridge that connects Rautahat and Sarlahi has not been completed yet.

The then physical planning construction minister Bimalendra Nidhi had laid the foundation stone of the bridge in 2012.

Alite Construction, Kathmandu, had taken responsibility to construct the 600-metre bridge at a cost of Rs 36 crore with a three-year deadline.

Locals said that the construction works could not gain momentum. They said that the construction company had only completed 85 per cent of work in the last nine years. The locals complained to the authorities concerned regarding the delay, but in vain.

Social worker Dipu Sah said the bridge construction started aiming to connect rural areas and promote business. He said problems arose due to severe negligence on the part of the authorities concerned and the contractor company.

Sah said that around 85 per cent work was completed after East Region Number 1 Planning Office, Dharan, got involved.
