Demand to double govt doctors' perks

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on Sunday demanded that the government double the salary and other benefits of doctors working at government hospitals.

A meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the umbrella organisation of Nepali medical doctors held in Chitwan made the decision considering the fact that they were expected to work anytime as per the need besides the regular working schedule.

The NMA would draw the attention of the Ministry of Health to address the demand as soon as possible, NMA General Secretary Dr Lochan Karki informed in a statement today after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the organisation also demanded that the government doctors be allowed to carry out private practice at other times besides their scheduled duty at government facilities.

Likewise, the government should address other genuine demands raised from time to time and implement previous agreements sealed with the organisation earlier, the meeting demanded.
