NMA warns to shut all hospitals across nation

RAJBIRAJ: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has warned to intensify its protests saying that the local administration did not show any responsibility to open government health facilities in Saptari district, which were closed for the past two weeks.

All the doctors and staff of Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj are staging protests after police personnel thrashed them in the hospital premises after violent clashes with cadres of Madhesi parties in the district.

The umbrella body of Nepali doctors also threatened to shut all hospitals if the government delayed to address their demands.

A team led by NMA President Anjani Kumar Jha and General Secretary Mukti Ram Shrestha had collected information regarding the attack and warned the government of intensifying the protest if the issue was not solved.

The team has drawn the attention of Narayan Bhatta, Chief District Officer of Saptari district, and urged him to look into the matter and understand the sensitivity of the case.

The doctors and hospital staff had demanded the suspension of district chiefs of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, medical treatment and compensation to the injured and guarantee of peace and stability.

The Hospital, in protest, has already started not attending the wound and injury cases forwarded by the security personnel.

The Hospital has been providing emergency service from the tent for past two weeks.
