No fertilisers in west

Local farmers in Kailai and Kanchanpur districts are reeling under acute shortage of chemical fertilisers as fertilisers have yet to reach local markets.

Farmers are worried as the sowing period for mustard and potatoes, among other seasonal crops, has already begun. They have been compelled to sow seeds without fertilisers.

The plight of farmers in the hilly districts of the far-west is also the same.

Agriculture Materials Company Limited Regional Office, Dhangadi does not have stock of fertilisers.

Chief Durga Prasad Pandey at the office said chemical fertilisers like DAP and Urea had gone out of stock.

He said that it would take some more days for the fertilisers to reach the office. Pandey informed that around 30,000 metric tonnes fertiliser was needed.

The Agriculture Materials Company Limited had sold 1,959 tonnes of urea, 516 tonnes DAP and 35 tonnes potash in the past two months.

Chief at Salt Trading Regional Office, Dhangadi, Keshab Prasad Pandey said estimated demand of fertilizers have yet to reach the office.
