No respite from cerebral malaria

Banke, December 23:

Though winter has set in, cerebral malaria still haunts the people of Phattepur, Gangapur, Holiya and Narainapur VDCs in Banke district.

“Altogether 63 patients were diagnosed with cerebral malaria between November 17 and December 15,” said Dr GD Thakur, the disease control chief at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division.

“They are undergoing treatment. A medical team is treating the patients.”

Mosquito nets have been distributed in malaria-affected areas of Banke district.

The Sanjibani Nepal and the Human Welfare Council, in partnership with the Nepal government and PSI Nepal, have provided the nets.

PSI Nepal project chief, Ananda Shah, said, “Altogether 1,008 mosquito nets were distributed to people living in malaria-affected VDCs.”
