‘No to statute sans Madhesis’ rights’
Nawalparasi, September 2
.
Speaking at a massive protest meeting organised by Madhesi-Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee, Nawalparasi, in district headquarters Parasi today, Sadbhawana Party Chairperson Rajendra Mahato clarified that the party had quit the Constituent Assembly to join commoners in the agitation to secure the rights of the Madhesi community.
“The four major parties have attempted to draft the constitution without rights for Madhesis so that they can pass on their political legacy to their offsprings, but such attempts won’t be accepted,” said Mahato, who attributed the ‘Madhes revolt’ to the suppression of the police administration.
Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party central chair Mahendra Raya Yadav said that the government must implement past agreements. “As suppression of people’s voice is no solution, the government should be ready to implement all the past agreements,” he demanded.
Various other Madhes-based leaders also expressed their dissatisfaction with the proposed federal model that the upcoming statute has envisaged.
