Renowned Norwegian athlete and TV profile Frank Løke has left for Lukla this morning aiming to scale the world's highest peak without using supplemental oxygen.

According to Mnaging Director and Expedition leader Lakpa Sherpa at 8K Expeditions, former handball player and adrenaline junkie Frank Løke, 44, will attempt to climb Mt Everest without using bottled oxygen. "Løke along with his IFMGA guide Tsering Pemba Sherpa from 8K Expeditions has begun the expedition," Sherpa said.

Løke, who summited Mt Everest in 2021 and K2 in 2022 with oxygen support, said that he decided to attempt Mt Everest without supplemental oxygen this season.

According to records, Løke was capped 186 times and scored 646 goals for the Norwegian national team, and was voted best pivot at the 2008 European Men's Handball Championship.

Løke represented Norway at every World Championship and European Championship between 2005 and 2011.
