NRA distributes Rs 27.3 billion for quake survivors

KATHMANDU: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), a government body formed to carry out post-earthquake reconstruction works, has so far allocated Rs 27.3 billion to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to distribute the first tranche of house rebuilding grants to the survivors of the Gorkha Earthquake.

Till the date, the Ministry has signed the grant agreements with 530,646 people who lost their houses to the quake, according to Ministry's Central Level Project Implementation Unit.

Among them, the first instalment of the grants has been deposited in the bank accounts of 444,462 individuals, NRA Spokesperson Ram Prasad Thapaliya said.

A meeting of the NRA Steering Committee on September 26 decided to provide grant assistance of Rs 300,000 to the disaster survivors in three tranches.
