The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has revised the transaction limits for debit cards issued by banks and financial institutions under an amendment to the Integrated Directives on Payment System, 2081.

According to a circular issued by NRB's Payment System Department on October 10, the amendment - made under Section 45 of the Payment and Settlement Act, 2075.

As per the new provision, the per-transaction limit for debit cards has been reduced from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 20,000, while the daily limit has been cut from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 50,000.

Similarly, the monthly limit has been revised from Rs. 400,000 to Rs. 300,000.

However, the existing limits for prepaid cards and credit cards remain unchanged. Prepaid cards issued by non-bank service providers continue to have a maximum per-transaction limit of Rs. 5,000 and a monthly ceiling of Rs. 25,000.
