NSDPM anniversary

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Ananda Prasad Dhungana urged mediapersons to be cautious while disseminating news, considering the sensitivity of the profession.

At a programme organised to mark the second anniversary of National Society of Democratic Print Media in the capital city on Friday, Dhungana, said the contributions of the media sector to strengthening democracy should never be forgotten.

Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsing KC said press freedom exists only in a democracy and asked the media to work as a neutral watchdog for society.

Senior journalist Harihar Birahi, Chairman of Press Council Nepal Borna Bahadur Karki, former chairman of Nepal Press Union Samirjung Shah, Chairman of Society Damodar Prasad Dawadai and others expressed their views on the role of media in the changed context.

On the occasion, Janakpur-based journalist Madhav Acharya and Durga Dutta Sharma Acharya of Baglung were felicitated.
