Kathmandu, March 11P:

The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) affiliated to the Nepali Congress (Democratic) has postponed its 9th national convention scheduled for March 12 in Birgunj “due to the ongoing Tarai unrest”.

However, another date has not be announced yet. The NSU central committee meeting tomorrow is likely announce the date — most probably March 23, 24 nd 25. NSU joint general secretary Kalyan Kumar Gurung said the situation was not favourable for conducting the convention in Birgunj.

Conventions in 60 districts and 10 valley campuses have taken place as of now. Earlier, the NSU central committee had said that the convention would take place on the scheduled time.

“The recent unrest has compelled us to postpone the convention,” Gurung said. “If the situation in the Tarai had been normal, it would have taken place by now,” he said.
