NSU submits memo to TU Vice-Chancellor
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Students Union (NSU), a student wing of the Nepali Congress, has submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuwan University calling for reforms in education sector in the country Tuesday.
A team headed by NSU President Ranjit Karna handed over a 13-point memo to VC Prof Dr Thirtha Khaniya which demands an end to anomalies and aberration propping up in the education sector.
The memo demands distribution of scholarships to the deprived, diligent and quake-hit students in the technical subjects like BSc Food Tech and others and timely election to the Free Students Union.
They have also urged the University leadership to further improve semester system equipping with physical infrastructures and conduct exams of Masters level in Terai region with restrain in the context of ongoing agitation there.
The memo, in view of the students bearing the brunt of widespread fuel-shortage, also demanded the oldest university of the country to make available LPG cylinder and other fuels to students in need on the basis of student identity card.
Also recommended by the Union were the scientific and systematic issuance of affiliation to the colleges, putting in place loan system for students pursuing various expensive courses including engineering and BBA.
VC Prof Dr Khaniya receiving the memo expressed his commitment for holding NSU election on time and scrapping the license of the colleges which obtained it in an irregular way, according to NSU Spokesperson UP Lamichhane.
Stating that he has just assumed the office and there are myriad of works to undertake, VC Khaniya urged all the student unions for extending cooperation towards fulfilling his commitment for reforms.
