Kathmandu, June 30:

Talks between the representatives of the Nepal Students’ Union and the Tribhuvan University (TU), which were held yesterday to discuss a host of demands put forth by the union, ended without making any headway. According to Dr Hira Bahadur Maharjan, the principal of the TU, the students opposed the TU’s plan of slapping Rs 150 annually as Campus Development Fees. Calling on the TU to meet its demands, the NSU has padlocked the TU principal’s office since June 17. “We will call them for another round of talks in two days,” Dr Maharjan said, asking the students to soften up. The issue of adequate supply of drinking water and other facilities at the TU hostel, which figured in the students’ charter of demands, were also discussed during the talks. The NSU also charged the TU with delaying the recruitment of a warden and other employees at the Kanti Girls’ Hostel.
