BIRGUNJ, DECEMBER 13

The number of patients suffering from cold and cough, fever and respiratory problems visiting hospitals has increased with the dip in mercury in Parsa.

There is a surge of patients in the urban and rural areas with the increasing cold due to the onset of cold wave here since some days.

The District Health Office, Parsa stated that an increasing number of people suffering from cough and cold, fever and respiratory problems have been visiting the Birgunj-based Narayani Hospital, Prabhu Hospital, Nepal Mediciti Vayodha Hospital and the health facilities in the rural areas. Patients include infants and the elderly alike.

The number of patients at the hospital has surged due to the increase in cold in the last some days, said Dr Udaya Narayan Singh, the Information Officer, Narayani Hospital. He said 30 to 40 patients suffering from cough and cold, fever, pneumonia and other diseases have been visiting the hospital daily, seeking medication.

According to him, the hospital is struggling to cope up with the surge in patients due to shortage of beds. Dr Singh added that they are treating patients, keeping them on floor for lack of beds.
