Nuwakot, May 20:
An unidentified disease, traced a month ago, has claimed a large number of livestock in the eastern VDCs of Nuwakot district. Dorje Tamang of Gaonkharka VDC-8, who arrived in the district headquarters Bidur today said about 30 lactating animals had died of the disease.
The District Livestock Service Office (DLSO), Nuwakot, has claimed ignorance about the disease. Tamang said the infected animals’ bodies bloat, they lose appetite and die within the next few days. Claiming that a similar kind of health problem was also seen among animals last year, Tamang said. “Nearly a dozen animals have died.” Locals said the disease has also affected stray dogs. According to them, over 50 dogs of the three VDCs had died of the disease. DLSO chief Ram Chandra Devkota said they had not received information from the Samundratar VDC Livestock Service Centre that was supposed to look after the affected VDCs.
