Office of election officer for NA polls set up in Province 6

The office of the Election Officer has been set up for National Assembly election slated for February 7 in Surkhet’s Birendranagar.

In line with Election Commission’s directive, the provincial level office of the election officer was set up for the National Assembly polls in Province 6. Election officer and Surkhet district judge Medini Prasad Paudel said Province-6 had 198 voters. The voters comprise chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities, mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities and 40 provincial lawmakers elected under the-first-past-the-post electoral system and through proportional representation system.

Paudel said voters’ names would be made public on January 21 and nomination would be filed three days later. The National Assembly election will  start from 8:00am to 5:00pm on February 7.

According to National Assembly Election Act, three NA members will be elected under open category, three from women’s category and one each under minority and Dailt category from the province.

The CPN-UML enjoys majority in Province 6. UML has 59 voters from local levels and 20 voters from the provincial assembly. Altogether UML has 79 voters. The CPN-Maoist has a total of 67 voters including 54 voters from local levels and 13 from the provincial assembly. The Nepali Congress has 48 voters including 42 from local levels and six from the province.
