KHOTANG: All Nepal National Free Students Union, Khotang, organised an interaction on “worsening educational in community schools’’. Various people including representatives of political parties, Chief District Officer and office-in-charges attended. Discussion was held on a paper presented by ANNFSU district chairman Dev Kumar Rai. Admitting the situation of community school is worsening, District Education Officer Jhum Prasad Rai regretted political interference in educational sector to enhance the quality education. — RSS

Tractor driver killed

BIRATNAGAR: The driver of a tractor died when it tractor overturned while ploughing in his own paddy field. Saiju Miya, 27, of Biratnagar-21 got hurt while ploughing, and died undergoing treatment at the Koshi Zonal Hospital, police said. — RSS

Floods threaten locals

SURKHET: Hundreds of Dalits of Shantinagar of Latikoili VDC- 1 in Surkhet are scared of being swept away in Jhuprakhola. Some 300 Dalits make a living by making gravel and collecting sand and are compelled to live on slopes when it rains. The huts are vulnerable. — RSS

Aid to martyrs’ kin

KATHMANDU: The government on Saturday handed out cash to the next of kin of martyrs of the Jana Andolan II. The money was distributed at a function at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Deputy PM and Foreign Minister KP Oli handed over cash of Rs 1 million each to the next of kin of six martyrs who were supposed to receive the amount from the Kathmandu District Administration Office (KDAO). Oli has promised job to next of kin of the martyrs. The families are being paid Rs 3,000 per month. — HNS

Dhading: Speakers at an interaction on Issue of Constituent Assembly and Inclusive Democracy organised here on Friday by INSEC at Dhadingbesi stressed that the new statute should ensure representation of all sections and classes of society. Maoists’ mea culpa

ITAHARI: In charge of Maoists (Morang), Sushil, on Saturday apologised for the case of Maoist militias beating up two civilians at Birat Chowk on Thursday. He went to the spot where the Maoist militias had beaten up the civilians and apologised in front of members of civil society, businessmen, intellectuals, rights activists among others. — HNS
