Medicine thieves held

TERHATHUM: Local people have caught Surendra Prasad Saha, acting chief of the Sankranti Ayurved Dispensary and Narendra Dev, chief of the Chuhandanda Sub-Health Post, Terhathum, with stolen medicines in Terai. The local people have also confiscated seven different types of stolen medicines, which the government had provided for free distribution. Locals said they were involved in similar thefts earlier also. Acting Chief of the District Ayurved Dispensary, Binod Kumar Saha, said necessary action would be taken against the persons involved in the theft. — RSS

Relief provided

MAHOTTARI: The District Natural Disaster Relief Committee has provided Rs 2,000 each to the 68 fire victim families of Madhawa, Badhmaha VDC-6, Mahottari District. A total of Rs 136,000 has been provided in relief assistance to the families. VDC secretary Jayananan Dubey distributed the relief assistance. Fire on March 29 had destroyed 73 houses. — RSS

Support for victims

SINDHULI: Nepal Red Cross Society, Sindhuli Branch, has provided Rs 11,509 for medical treatment of the persons who sustained injuries in a fire that broke out at Taksar in Sindhuli on April 2. Ten persons were killed and five were injured in the fire. Three out of the five persons who sustained injuries in the incident are undergoing treatment. — RSS

Interaction held

DHADING: An interaction was organised here on Friday to mark the 57th World Health Day. At a programme organised by the District Health Office, participants discussed the report on works in the health sector, presented by Dr Bhakta Batsal Raut. Mishap kills cop

DANG: Arjun KC, an armed police head constable and a resident of Salyan, who had been deployed at the Arjunkhola-based unified security base camp in Deukhuri valley of the district, was killed on Friday night when a gun that he was carrying went off after he accidentally fell upon it, security sources said. KC’s body has been taken to Mahendra Hospital, Ghorahi for post mortem. — HNS

Two killed in mishap

SINDHUPALCHOWK: Two persons were killed and six others critically injured when a carrier van (Na 2 Kha 2712) bound for Khasa Bazaar of Tibet from Tatopani skidded off the road at Ramite near Khasa Bazaar on Friday. Driver of the van Furi Sherpa, 29, of Listi VDC-1 died on the spot while trader Raju Poudel, 32, of Tatopani VDC-9 died on way to hospital, a local Pasang Lama said. Dawang Lama, 23, Fursangbu Lama, 32, Budhiman Thami, 18, Aaita Man Thami, 24, of Listi VDC-4 and Chale Thami, 32, of Tatopani-1 were airlifted to the capital for treatment. — HNS

Lightning kills three

SINDHUPALCHOWK: Lightning killed three persons in Sindhupalchowk and Charikot on Friday. Two persons died in Sindhupalchowk when a lightning bolt struck them at 5:30 pm. They have been identified as Lalit Bahadur Thapa, 61, and Saili Karki, 67, of Thapagaun, Irkhu-2 . Both were at their respective homes at that time. Five houses were damaged and two goats also perished. In Charikot, Lal Bahadur Tamang, 42, of Gairimudi VDC-4, Dolakha, was killed when lightning struck him. His daughter fainted after the incident and is yet unconsciousness. — HNS

Black-flag protest

BARA: Agitators on Saturday waved black flags at ministers Buddhi Man Tamang and Yangkila Sherpa in Simara of Bara district. The agitators waved the black flags as the ministers were heading for Simara airport from Birgunj, said Krishna Poudel, publicity department chief of the Bara CPN-UML. Police baton-charged the agitators, injuring over two dozen people including Sundar BK, Dinesh Rai, Krishna Poudel, Hari Thapaliya, among others. The condition of one Kamlesh Jha is said to be serious. — HNS

Physicians’ rally

BIRATNAGAR: Physicians on Saturday said they would launch a protest on Sunday against the Health Ordinance. A provision in the ordinance imposes tax on physicians’ service. The Koshi zonal branch of the Nepal Physicians’ Association (NPA), in a press release on Saturday said physicians are actively working for the treatment of people but the government has made an unjustifiable decision. It has created a situation where the people will have to pay tax for falling sick, the release stated. — HNS

Hospital services

DULEGAUDA: The Seti Ganga Community Hospital at Dulegauda VDC -9 has provided health services to more than 15,000 people within two years of its establishment. The hospital has provided services for rural people and those injured in road accidents, health workers said. The number of patients with fever and diarrhea has been increasing with the change of weather recently. — RSS
