Dacoits kill one
BIRATNAGAR: A 40-year-old, Jogiya Rai, was killed and four persons — Bishweshwor Mehta, Chatra Bahadur Thapa, Sudesh Rai and Ashok Chaudhari — were hurt when dacoits opened fire on people, who had come out of their houses for retaliation, in Purba Kushaha-9 of Sunsari on Tuesday night. A group of 20 armed dacoits had taken the tole under control and looted cash and goods worth over Rs 1.5 lakhs from the houses of Guman Singh Bhandari, Bindeshwor Mehta, Ganesh Urau, Binay Urau, Nil Prasad Kharel, Kumar Bhujel. The same group of dacoits looted Rs 16,000, cattle and goods from the house of Badri Narayan Rai of Chimdi-5, Sunsari, police said. — HNS
Detention orders
KATHMANDU: The government on Wednesday announced three-month detention period for 13 Nepal Tarun Dal (NTD) leaders, including president Binod Kayastha, treasurer Rajiv Paudel, central members Kamal Prasad Bhusal, Damodar Koirala, Saraswati Tiwari and Kaman Singh Rayamajhi. Others who have been jailed for three months are Pramod Rimal, Govind Pudasaini, Sambhu Prasad Pant, Pradeep Pudasaini, Suman Adhikari, Lal Prasad Kandel and Sarita KC. They are being held at various detention centers in the capital, NTD General Secretary Pusha Parajuli said in a statement. — HNS
