FNJ flays threat

Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned zonal administrator for Janakpur, Janak Jungali, for threatening journalists. “Jungali threatened to detain and take strong action against FNJ secretary Rajesh Kumar Karna. He said that scribes must be ‘taught a lesson’ because they are writing whatever they like,” the FNJ said in a press release issued today. Karna had issued a press release on Tuesday against Jungali’s threat. The release also urged all the journalists not to be deterred by such threats coming from officials who were nominated unconstitutionally. — HNS

Elephant kills one

CHITWAN: A resident of Patihani VDC-8, who was injured when a wild elephant attacked him near his home on Thursday, died while he was being rushed to the Bharatpur hospital for treatment, the Chitwan district police office said. The police identified the dead as 51-year-old Kampati Tamang. — HNS

Builders’ meet

SYANGJA: The sixth annual general assembly meeting of the Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs’ Association concluded here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the meeting, district advocate Hari Prasad Bagal said construction entrepreneurs should pay more attention to the quality of their work than profits and should work in the interest of the nation. Speaking on the occasion, Tulsi Giri of the Nepali Congress and Chakra Parajauli of the CPN-UML said construction entrepreneurs should set good examples. Appeal to vote

BHAKTAPUR: Vice-chairman of the District Development Committee, Ramhari Thapa, has appealed to all citizens of the country to make the upcoming municipal elections a success. Laying the foundation stone of the Ganesh Bhajan building at a function organised here on Wednesday on the premises of the temple of Lord Ganesh at Tathali VDC, he said voting is the fundamental right of the people and nobody should be deprived of it. — RSS

Free health camp

RAMECHHAP: A free surgery camp was organised at Manthali in Ramechhap. At the camp operated by the Tamakoshi Service Committee, 496 women were provided with health check-up service for free, according to doctor at the Tamakoshi Service Committee, Dr Suman Karmacharya. The camp was jointly organised by the District Development Committee, District Health Office, Tamakoshi Service Committee, Community Forest Society and Rural Health Development Project. — RSS
