1 killed in bike mishap

Biratnagar: One person died and another was injured when a motorcycle with registration No BA. 1 PA 4338 met with an accident at Gangachowk in Tanki Sinwari of Morang district on Tuesday night. The motorcyclist Anil Shrestha of Chitwan died while the pillion rider Yubaraj Paudel of Jhapa was injured. Both of them were admitted at the Birat Nursing Home for treatment, but Shrestha died while undergoing treatment. Likewise, Dilliram Kafle, 62, a resident of Khanar -5 of Sunsari was found dead at his own home on Wednesday. — RSS

Alcohol sale banned

ITAHARI: The sale of alcohol has been prohibited in the weekly hat bazaars at and around Inaruwa Municipality from now onwards. According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, a team of police directed the contractors and alcohol entrepreneurs not to sell alcohol from the next week. The action is reportedly taken on the basis of complaints. — RSS

560 freed

TAPLEJUNG: The Maoists released 560 abducted teachers and students on Tuesday after making them take part in a training camp, a freed teacher said. The Maoists had abducted the teachers and students from schools in Dhungesaanghu, Change, Hangpang, Phulbari and Nighuradin VDCs a week ago. Some of the students and teachers were allowed to return after they took ill on the way to the training camp, a source said. The abductions had disrupted classes in over 25 schools. — HNS

BARA: A 50-year-old woman, Charku Maiyya Majhi of Baunmara-2, Dhanusha, died when a truck with registration number Na 2 Kha 7992 hit her near Pasaha Khola, along the Mahendra Highway, on Wednesday. In another incident, an eight-year-old, Nima Lama of Nijgadh-7, died when a passenger bus (Ba 1 Kha 3349) hit her near Nijgadh on Tuesday, the Mid-regional Traffic Office, Pathlaiyya, said. — HNS

DMI graduates

KATHMANDU: The first batch of 10 students of the Dhulikhel Medical Institute (DMI) affiliated to the Kathmandu University graduated in physiotherapy on Wednesday. President of the Nepal Physiotherapy Association gave away certificates to the graduates, a press release said. The DMI claimed its graduates have already received offers of employment. —HNS
