6 killed in mishap
PALPA:
Six persons died on Monday when a passenger-jeep skidded off some 400 metres below the road at Bhutuke Bhanjyang of Chidipani. The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 823) was heading from Palpa’s Aryabhanjyang to Jalpa. Eleven persons who were injured in the mishap are undergoing treatment at the Tansen Mission Hospital. Two women and one male, who have not been identified, died on the spot while jeep driver Mana Saru, 26, died while being taken to the mission hospital and jeep owner, 42, Amar Saru and two-and-half year old Maya Barhaghare died while undergoing treatment. Witnesses said brake failure had led to the accident. Two of the 11 injured are in critical condition, the hospital said. — HNS
Indian help for library
KAPILVASTU:
The Indian Embassy has shown interest to upgrade the Pashupati Pratap Library, the oldest public library of Nepal. The embassy has asked for a proposal for equipping the library with modern facilities such as e-mail and internet services, said the president of the library, Amrit Chandra Thakur. The library was founded in 1936 AD in Taulihawa.Termites and other worms have caused damage to old religious, ancient, historic, literary scriptures and hand-written documents stored in the library. — HNS
Curfew extended
TULSIPUR:
The District Administration Office, Dang, has extended curfew time considering security situation in the district. According to the office, the new schedule came into force from Sunday evening from 8 PM to 4 AM. Earlier, the curfew time was set from 9 PM to 4 AM in two municipalities and 30 VDCs. — RSS
Time card system
BHARATPUR:
District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan, has introduced time card system again for the public vehicles plying on the Narayangarh-Mugling road section so as to decrease road accidents. Although the time card was introduced three years ago, it has not been in practice as the road was not maintained well. — RSS
Relief for flood victims
TULSIPUR:
The Regional Police Office, Surkhet and Zonal Police Office, Rapti recently distributed relief materials to 300 families of Dang Deukh-uri, who were rendered homeless by floods a few week ago. Rice, beaten rice, flour, blankets, noodles, utensils and clothes were distributed to the victims in Gadhawa, Gobardiya, Chailahi, and Gangaparaspur. — RSS
