Anti-rabies drive
BIRATNAGAR:
The first-ever vaccination campaign against rabies in Nepal will kick off in Biratnagar with the joint effort of Disease Control Division and Public Health Office in Kathmandu. Senior Vet Dr Bodh Prasad Acharya informed that the first phase of the campaign in Biratnagar would vaccinate over 1,500 dogs. The campaign will then move on to Janakpur, Butwal, Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa respectively, said the Chief of District Public Health Office Naba Raj Subba. — HNS
Soldier abducted
PYUTHAN:
Maoists abducted army constable Sanat Bahadur Khadka from Baddanda of Pyuthan on Tuesday. District Police Office, Pyuthan, said Khadka was abducted on his way home at Maranthana-8, Gahatera. Rights activists and Khadka’s relatives have appealed to the Maoists for his safe release. Right bodies in the district said that such actions were against the spirit of the ceasefire. — HNS
Civil society meet
Baglung:
Representatives of civil society have urged the King to accept the supremacy of the Nepali people. Addressing a meeting in Baglung on Wednesday, Krishna Pahadi, a human rights activist, said the King must agree to form a constituent assembly. “Look at the history of the world, it can be said that the monarchy and democracy can’t go together,” he said, adding that monarchy was hindering the development of Nepal. “As long as the autocratic monarchy exists, peace can never be restored here.” Shyam Shrestha, a journalist, said the King was to blame for the crisis. The agitation will continue until a democratic republic is established, he said. — HNS
Indian escapes
BIRGUNJ:
Yugal Kishor Lohar, 28, an Indian citizen, locked up in the house of local Badu Mahto at Hariharpur VDC of Parsha escaped on Wednesday, the police said. Sharma fled by breaking the lock when no one was in the house. A gang had abducted him from India a week ago. — HNS
Plant to check bird flu
CHITWAN:
The WHO is considering installing a plant equipped with sophisticated instruments in Bharatpur with a view to identifying bird flu, officials said. The chief of the National Bird Disease Research Laboratory in Bharatpur, Tikaram Neupane, said WHO and the laboratory are holding talks on installing the plant. — RSS
