9 die of influenza

DANG: A total of nine people have died of viral influenza and more than 30 are suffering from the disease at Banfikot and Rukumkot areas of Rukum district in the last two weeks. “It is difficult to take the patients to the district headquarters for treatment because heavy downpour had damaged rural roads,” locals said. A team of health workers with medicines has been sent to the affected areas from the district headquarters, District Public Health Office, Rukum, informed. - HNS

Campuses closed

KAVRE: Campuses in the district remained closed on Thursday at the closure call of the agitating eight student unions. The closure was called to protest against the police intervention in a student rally on Wednesday. Campuses and higher secondary schools in district headquarters Dhulikhel, Banepa, Panauti, and Panchkhal remained closed throughout the day disrupting regular educational activities. On Wednesday the police had intervened a student rally demanding total democracy in the country and student leaders including Dipak Gautam, district president of the ANNFSU, were injured. — HNS

CIAA books joint secy

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority ( CIAA) has filed a charge-sheet at the Special Court on Wednesday against joint secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports Birendra Kumar Singh. The commission has said Singh has illegally amassed property worth Rs 13,613,000. The commission has demanded imprisonment and fines on Singh besides confiscation of the property. — RSS
