DAO explanation

POKHARA: The District Administration Office, Kaski, has made it clear that pillion riding is not banned in Pokhara. Lawyer Bishwa Ghimire said on Tuesday the DAO has notified the Appellate Court it has just requested civilians to ride motorcycles without a pillion rider for security reasons. Ghimire had filed a petition against the order on July 20. The Appellate Court Pokhara had asked the DAO to justify the ban. The court has scheduled hearing for July 31. — HNS

1 killed in accident

BARA: One worker was killed on the spot when a bus hit him at Chhapapipra-4, Triveni, Bara on Tuesday. Ram Jeevan Das, 32, of Sitamadhi, India, was killed when the bus headed for Pathlaiya from Birgunj hit the bicycle he was riding, said Midwestern Traffic Police Office, Pathlaiya. Driver Shyam Sundar Thapa, 28, of Shivnagar-1, Chitwan, and the bus has been taken in custody. — HNS

Maoists abduct cop

CHARIKOT: Maoists abducted police constable Kumar Shrestha of Sahare VDC, Dolakha, on Saturday. Shres-tha’s father, Shambhu Shrestha, said around 50 to 60 armed Maoists kidnapped his son when he was home on leave. Shrestha has requested human rights activists and media to take initiatives to protect his son’s life. Shrestha was stationed at Ward Police office at Bouddha, Kathmandu. — HNS

Poison toll 12

PALPA: Shankar Gaire, 42, who was undergoing treatment at the Misson Hospital, Tansen after eating poisonous mushrooms, died on Tuesday. With his death, the number of people dying from consuming poisonous mushroom has reached 12. — HNS
