SC registrar shunted

KATHMANDU: As per the recommendation of the Judicial Council, the Council of Ministers has decided to transfer registrar of the Supreme Court, Shree Prasad Pundit, to the reserve pool, an official of the apex court said on Friday. The Judicial Council is headed by Chief Justice Hari Prasad Sharma. This is the first time in the 50-year-old history of Nepal’s judiciary that a CJ has decided to transfer a registratr to the reserve pool because of personal differences. — HNS

Envoy meets Nepal

KATHMANDU: Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Tore Toreng on Thursday met CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s office at Balkhu, according to a statement issued by the party. It said Toreng conveyed his country’s firm commitment to the restoration of democracy in Nepal. — HNS

Detention for Prakash

KATHMANDU: The Royal Commission for Control Corruption (RCCC) remanded a five-day detention to former minister Prakash Man Singh on Friday. He has been in the detention for his involvement in the Melamchi Drinking Water Project scam. The RCCC said it would hear the case on Tuesday. — HNS

Six mountaineers hurt

KATHMANDU: Six climbers, who were injured in an avalanche on the Everest on Wednesday, are being treated at a hospital run by the Himalayan Rescue Association at the Everest base camp, a mountaineering expert said. US nationals James Fadrick Bach and Jason John Barrilla, Canadian nationals John Dahu Gauthier and Pierre Bourdeau. — HNS
