Attack on NTV flayed:

Kathmandu: Reporters Without Borders has condemned a raid by hundreds of Maoist rebels who ransacked and torched the public Nepal Television (NTV) in Kohalpur on 23 February. “It is unacceptable that the press, gagged on one side by the king, should also be targeted by rebels,” the worldwide press freedom organisation said in a statement issued via e-mail. — HNS

NARAYANGADH: The District Administration Office, Chitwan has freed four persons including two local journalists on Tuesday. Those released are RSS local correspondent Narayan Adhikari, local correspondent of Gorkhapatra daily Basanta Parajuli, teacher Ramakant Shapkota and associate professor Bal Krishna Poudel. — HNS

Abductee’s release sought:

KATHMANDU: The International Human Rights Organisation for the Right to Feed Oneself (FIAN International), in a press statement issued on Tuesday, has expressed concern about the abduction of its member and employee of Chaudhari Group Jayendra Chudal calling for his immediate release.The rebels reportedly abducted Chudal, member of FIAN International’s branch in Chitwan and an employee of Chaudhary Group’s industry in Nawalparasi on February 18, the statement said. — HNS

KATHMANDU: A five-minute-long informative mirco-documentary on trafficking of women, children to brothels of India, prepared by Rajendra Salav was shown in 38 cinema halls throughout the country, with the support of the Film Development Board. It is shown in 18 cinema halls in the Mid Western Development region and Jai Nepal Cinema hall, Kumari Cinema Hall, Biswajyoti Cinema hall, Guna Cinema Pvt Ltd, Gopi Krishna Movies, Barahi Movies in Kathmandu, a statement issued on Tuesday said. — HNS

Meet on Dolpa problems:

DOLPA: A meeting held under the chairmanship of Surya Prasad Bhandari, the Chief District Officer of Dolpa discussed various problems of the district including regular supply of daily essentials including electricity and telephone facilities. According to the Dolpa Chambers of Commerce and Industry there is a shortage of kerosene and sugar in the district headquarters. A businessman said the blockades roads and expensive air fares for transportation of goods affected supply in the district. — RSS

Migrants return home:

MYAGDI: The residents of Mustang, who migrated to the low land with onset of winter to ward off chilly winter have started returning home. They migrate to the low lands bringing with them several goods like jimbu, satuwa and yarshagumba to sell them there and with the ending of winter return to their homes in the high land. — RSS

INARUWA: Dinesh Kumar Shrestha of Dharan muncipality-5, Mahendrapath has been arrested for using and smuggling narcotics. The police also confiscated narcotics including sedative tablets from him. — RSS
