Army escorts vehicles

RAUTAHAT:

The Royal Nepalese Army escorted vehicles along the Mahendra Highway on Friday to foil the indefinite transportation strike called by the Maoists. The security base camp, Chandranigahpur said it escorted more than 50 long route vehicles and same number of cargo truck across the district. It further assured security to other vehicles staying off the road and asked them to resume the transportation service. — HNS

Govt building bombed

DHANGADI:

A powerful bomb has destroyed a 14-room government building on the premises of Kailali District Hospital on Thursday night. A District Police Office source suspected Maoists for the explosion. The explosion completely demolished five rooms and a courtroom among others. Furniture, typewriters and the main gate to the building were also damaged. The district judge, accountant and two peons used to reside in the building. — HNS

Scholarships awarded

GAIGHAT:

The District Education Office, Udayapur has distributed scholarship worth Rs 4.3m this fiscal year. Those receiving the scholarships are students from Dalit community, 50 per cent girls studying at the primary level in different schools in the district, disabled students, the DEO senior officer Krit Narayan Chaudhary said. He added 14 resource persons from 14 resource centres in the district had been dispatched to monitor whether the distribution. — RSS

Community-run schools

ILAM:

Management of 44 per cent of the public schools in Ilam district have been handed over to the community as a part of the government programme, launched three years ago, to promote community’s involvement and ownership in education, the District Education Office Ilam said. The management of 177 of the 387 schools in Ilam district has been handed over to the local community and the process to hand over the management of 25 more schools to the community is in the process, it is learnt. — RSS

Cattle stolen

URLABARI:

Armed Indian robbers have looted nearly a dozen cattle from the houses of Yagya Bahadur Karki and Khagendra Siwakoti at Rangeli VDC-8, Morang district on Tuesday night. According to the locals, the robbers who came at around 10 o’clock in the night took away five goats, two buffaloes and a cow from Karki’s house and two milch buffaloes and a pair of oxen from Shivakoti’s house. — RSS

Surprise checks

PYUTHAN:

Some 48 office employees were found absent from their duty uninformed when the District Administration Office, Pyuthan carried out a surprise check in different government offices of the district on Thursday. Eight officers, 56 junior officers and 20 employees of other ranks were absent during the surprise check. Action will be taken against the absent employees, CDO Dol Raj Dhakal said. — RSS

Conference postponed

BIRATNAGAR:

The Nepal-India Homeopathy International Conference, scheduled to take place on March 5 and 6 under the joint auspices of Nepal Homeopathic Physicians’ Association and the Homeopathic Medical Association of India, has been postponed. The conference was scheduled to be held in Kathmandu with an objective of generating public awareness about homeopathy. — RSS
