Sent-up exams from Feb 3:

DAMAK: The sent-up examinations, which had been postponed following the educational strike called by the Maoist-aligned ANNISU-R in the Mechi-Koshi zones, will begin from February 3. The decision was taken by the district-level sent-up examination coordination committee. —HNS

Maoists gun down civilian:

DAMAK: Maoist gunned down a civilian at Dharampur of Jhapa district on Monday evening. The Maoists killed Sambhu Chaudhary (32) after abducting him, the locals informed. Meanwhile, the Maoists abducted a businessman of Birtamod, Bishnu Bhetwal, from Danabari of Ilam district. Though he was abducted on January 17, the case has come to light only on Monday. — HNS

Snowfall affects life:

NUWAKOT: Snowfall in the northern part of the district has affected normal life here. Goljhung, Timure, Haku, Thuman, Gatlang and Langtang VDCs are the most affected areas. Over one feet of snow has fell on Langtang and areas surrounding it, locals said. Traffic remained blocked in many places on Monday due to the snowfall. — HNS

36 VDC secys quit :

RAMECHHAP: Secretaries of 36 village development committees of Ramechhap submitted their resignation at the DDC en masse on Sunday. They have cited Maoist threat behind their resignation. There are 44 VDC secretaries working in the total 55 VDCs of the district. — RSS

Body found:

DHADING: The body of Arbinda Adhikari (39), an employee of the Nepal Electricity Authority in Dhading, was found on the banks of the Trisuli river near Benighat on Sunday. Adhikari was missing since January 9, according to the office. — RSS

Headmaster kills self:

DAMAK: Rup Narayan Baskota, 44, the headmaster of the Kankae primary school in Pachhgachi has committed suicide by hanging from a tree. The reason for the suicide is not known. — RSS

Maoists attack UML man:

DAMAULI: Maoists on Sunday assaulted Hom Bahadur Thapa, a member of the UML Tanahu district committee, at his residence at Chhiring Sundhara VDC. He is being treated in Pokhara, Tanahu UML said. — RSS
