Maoists seize three buses

PHIDIM/DANG: The Maoists on Wednesday seized three passenger buses at two different places. They captured the bus with registration number Me 1 Kha 4146, which was on its way to Phidim from Birtamod, at Ranke bazaar, witnesses said. The Maoists also captured two other buses with registration numbers Ra 1 Kha 91 and Ra 1 Kha 28 at Panchkule in Dang. — HNS

Phidim campus reopens

PHIDIM: The Phidim Multiple Campus, shut for four days, reopened on Wednesday after the college administration and the Free Students’ Union (FSU) representatives reached an agreement. The FSU had locked up the college, demanding appointment of the campus chief, meeting of board of directors and transparency of accounts. The administration has committed to meet the students’ demands by January 21. — HNS

DDC staff quit en masse

POKHARA: Shortly after the Maoists’ threat to the DDC staff of Baglung, all personnel quit en masse on Tuesday. The resignation of the entire staff has thrown all work of the DDC out of gear. The Maoists’ district people’s government had issued an ultimatum to all DDC staff to resign by Thursday, a DDC staff told this daily. A month ago, the staff of Baglung municipality also quit after a similar ultimatum from the Maoists’. — HNS

MDCC holds meet

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Multi-Party Democratic Coordination Committee (MDCC) on Wednesday debated three crucial issues. The meeting, attended by PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, RPP president Pashupati Shumshere Rana and NSP president Badri Prasad Mandal debated the appointment of central bank governor, need to bring Maoists to the dialogue table and ways to make the functioning of the government more effective. — RSS

Forces gun down Maoist

TAPLEJUNG: A Maoist was killed in security operation on Wednesday in Taplejung district. Security sources said Pasang Sherpa alias Nasan of Santhakra-3 was killed during security operations at Juketar of Phoolbari VDC-3. Meanwhile, Maoists kidnapped over 200 teachers and students from Phoolbari VDC of the district on Tuesday and forced them to dig bunkers. — RSS

Maoists release siblings

TAPLEJUNG: The Maoists released three brothers, Meghraj Thongwang, Ganesh Thongwang and Tej Kumar Thongwang of Santhakra VDC, on Tuesday. The three were abducted while en route to their sister’s house to receive Bhai Tika on 12th November. The Maoists had accused them of spying against them. — RSS

Dacoity in paper mill

JANAKPURDHAM: A gang of dacoits committed robbery at the Everest Paper Mill located at Sankhuwa-Mahendranagar VDC of Dhanusha district on Tuesday. The gang of around 50 dacoits looted 8 tolas of gold, 17 tolas of silver including Rs 61,000 cash from the mill, said district police officials. — RSS
