Helper dies in mishap

PALPA:

Helper of a truck, who was injured when the truck veered off at Charchare of Masyam VDC-4, died while undergoing treatment at the United Mission Hospital, Palpa. The dead has been identified as Shom Bahadur Karki of Tamghas, Gulmi. The truck was headed for Butwal from Palpa. The driver, Mohan Karki, is being treated at the same hospital. —HNS

Maoists own up killing

RAUTAHAT:

The Maoists, in a press release issued on Saturday, have owned up the killing of a member of the people’s militia, Ramesh Basnet of Chandranigahpur-7. They have accused Basnet of spying against the CPN-Maoist and forging an alliance with the Madheshi Tigers. The press release was undersigned by district secretary Chitra and district people’s government chief Bindeshwor Ray Yadav. —HNS

Dacoits loot trucks, homes

RAUTAHAT:

Two groups of dacoits looted goods and properties worth Rs 10,00,000 on Friday night, the police said. An armed gang of bandits looted property worth Rs 5,00,000 from cargo trucks on the Chandranigahpur-Bagmati section of the Mahendra Highway on Friday. The gang had blocked the road by felling trees. The drivers did not file a complaint, saying the police were not patrolling the area despite a series of similar robberies. Meanwhile, the District Police Office said a band of 35 dacoits looted property worth Rs 5,00,000 from five houses in Khesariya and Sakhuawa VDCs on Friday. — HNS

Blast at police office

NEPALGUNJ:

The Maoists detonated a bomb at the Area Police Office at Kohalpur, Banke, on Friday night. The building, which is located at a distance of 300 metres from the RNA base camp, was destroyed, a security source said, adding that no one was there at the time of the blast. — HNS

Week-long outage over

TAPLEJUNG:

The week-long outage in Taplejung district ended on Friday after a machine of the 125-KW Somuwakhola Small Hydel Project, the only hydel project in the district, was repaired. The outage, which was caused due to unavailability of spare parts for the maintenance of the

machine, affected over 800 consumers. The project, which was bombed by the Maoists three years back, had started generating power last year. — HNS

School closed in Beding

BEDING:

The only education institution in Beding village in northern Dolakha has been closed due to snowfall. Beding Primary School, has been closed temporarily as the villagers have shifted to Nibar and Nagaun to escape cold. Sir Edmund Hillary had established it. — RSS

Anti-measles campaign

Parbat:

All the preparations related to National Measles Immunisation Campaign have been completed in Parbat district. Some 64,823 children aged from nine months to 15 years in the district are going to be immunised against measles under the campaign. Likewise, polio drops will be administered to about 24,000 children in the district. The immunisation will be carried out from January 4 to 12 in 27 VDCs at the first phase and from January 16 to 24 in remaining 38 VDCs at the second phase, it is said. —RSS
