Health services halted
SYANGJA: Health workers of the Syangja District Hospital on Sunday halted all heath services of the hospital except the emergency service after relatives of deceased Laxmi Giri, 18, manhandled Dr Taranath Poudel of the hospital on Friday. The relatives of the deceased had taken Dr Poudel to the District Police Office from the hospital. Health workers submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office demanding security to health workers and strong action against the culprits. The health workers also warned of halting all services in all the health posts and sub-health posts of the district if their demands weren’t fulfilled. Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased claimed that they had not misbehaved with the doctor. — HNS
Locals gherao DPO
BIRGUNJ: Locals of Hariharpur VDC of Parsa District gheraoed the District Police Office demanding to withdraw the kidnapping case against Ram Bahadur Kurmi of Hariharpur VDC. Kurmi had locked Bhuwan Shah Teli in his house following a dispute regarding land matters. The police had rescued Teli from Kurmi’s house on Friday despite the efforts of the villagers to stop the police team. Locals allege that the case filed against Kurmi was fake. Meanwhile, SP Subodh Ghimire said it was a crime to detain somebody without the individual’s consent, adding that search for Kurmi was underway. — HNS
Relief for mishap hit
Kathmandu: Of the nine persons killed in a road mishap four months ago in Lakhanpur of Jhapa district along the East-West Highway, families of seven received compensation on Sunday. Padam Bhandari, a member of the committee formed to provide compensation, said families of Jivan Kumar Rai, Tej Kumari Rai, Sushil Rai, Punya Prasad Mishra, Krishna Darjee and Chhabilal Nepal got compensation of Rs 1.25 lakhs each. “The compensation was provided in the presence of CDO,” he added.— HNS
Teacher detained
DHARAN: Cadres of ANNISU-R caught a teacher red handed photocopying an SLC question paper for the upcoming exam of the SLC and handed him over to the police on Sunday. According to District member of ANNISU-R Sunsari CP Bagagain, they had arrested a mathematics teacher of Saraswati Secondary School, Indra Narayan Yadhav photocopying the question paper at a local stationery shop. Bagagain also accused the local administration and exams committee of not being serous to maintain discipline in the examination procedures. Police detained Yadav, owner of Ratna Photocopy centre Suman Shrestha and staffer Sunil Gurung for investigation. — HNS
Highway obstructed
HETAUDA: Locals of Manahari obstructed the Manahari section of the East-West Highway for five hours from 8 am on Sunday protesting poor network connection of mobile phones in the area. According to the locals, they were compelled to protest, as their repeated requests to the Hetauda branch of NTC to improve the network quality had fallen on deaf ears. Thousands of passengers were stranded due to the obstruction. Locals of Manahari, Bastipur, Basamadi and Hadikhola have been facing difficulties due to poor network service in the area. —HNS
