5 killed in mishap

TANAHUN: Five persons were killed and 30 others injured when a jeep they were traveling in skidded 300 metres off the road on Wednesday. The accident site is some 40 km south-west of Damauli Bazaar. The vehicle was heading to Dulegauda from Jaspur of Syangja. The deceased have been identified as Lok Bahadur Gurung, Shanta Gurung, Purnima Gurung, Radha Gurung and Rabin Gurung of Phirphire. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara. — HNS

Rs 2.5m for culture

LALITPUR: Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City (LSMC) has allocated Rs 2.5 million for the preservation of culture and archaeology. "The amount will be used to preserve and promote culture and archaeology in the municipality," said architect Saubhagya Pradhanang, chief, Culture and Archaeology Unit of the LSMC. The annual budget for the last fiscal was approved only after the lapse of the ninth month of the last fiscal year. "All the programmes are continuation of those started last year since none saw its completion," she added. Ponds, inscriptions, stone spouts, sculptures and idols will be preserved as per the plan. Besides, city gates will be renovated and a cultural map will be prepared. — HNS
