Man rescued

KATHMANDU: A police sub-inspector on Monday rescued Kedar Magar (35) of Kalanki while the latter was being swept away by the swollen Bagmati River at Sanepa in Lalitpur. Following the rescue, an unconscious Magar was rushed to Star Hospital at Balkhu for treatment. — HNS

‘Prevention preached’

Biratnagar: Minister for Irrigation Bal Krishna Khand on Sunday said several VDCs along the Saptakoshi river faced a flood risk. Speaking at a press conference organised by the Morang chapter of Nepal Press Union here, Minister Khand said, “We may have to endure huge losses if we do not take preventive measures on time.” Inspecting the Koshi river, the minister said that construction of embankments in Mawa, Kankai, Biring and Bakraha rivers would be started after drafting a long-term plan for the rivers. “The government will initiate new plans after revising the situation of the embankments of the rivers,” he said — HNS
