Two killed in mishap

PHIDIM: Two persons were killed and two critically injured when a tractor, heading from Jorpokhari bazaar of Panchthar to Khunga, met with an accident on Tuesday afternoon. Tractor driver Kukaraj Angbo and Sukaraj Jawegu of Ektin-6 died on the spot. Sona Yonghang and Dipesh Yonghang of Panchami-5 were critically hurt. The injured are admitted to Panchthar Hospital. — HNS

Energy meet

KATHMANDU: In a bid to explore potentials of available resources in the rural areas for energy generation, the Association of District Development Committee, Nepal, is going organise a two-day national conference on ‘Rural Energy Development in Nepal’ from Thursday. Hem Raj Lamichhane, executive secretary of the committee, said, the role of different stakeholders will be extensively discussed and the outcome will be submitted to the stakeholders concerned for implementation. — HNS

Flights halted

BIRATNAGAR: Regular flights have come to a halt in Rumjatar Airport of Okhaldhunga as the runway is being blacktopped. According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Biratnagar office, the construction work started on January 10 and would be completed within 20 days. — HNS

Aid for hospital

KATHMANDU: The authorities of Nepal and China signed an agreement on Tuesday to build two tube-wells and a water treatment plant on the premises of the newly-built

hospital for civil servants at Minbhawan. China will provide Rs 113.5 million to build the 350-meter-deep wells and 688-square-meter water treatment plant and buy necessary equipment. — HNS

Eight held with arms

PYUTHAN: Police arrested seven persons along with weapons at Baddanda in Pyuthan district on Tuesday. Those arrested are Bikram Budha Magar (42), Man Bahadur Gharti Magar (52), Gowardhan Gharti Magar (35), Kamala Gharti Magar (23), Ram Bahadur Pun Magar (49) and Ram Bahadur Gharti Magar (31) of Rolpa district and Meen Prakash Pun Magar (33) of Lalmatiya of Dang district, the police said. Meanwhile, Sahamuddhin Ansari, 30, a resident of Kalaiya-12, was held along with a country-made pistol and its bullets. — HNS
