Two people killed
DAMAK: Devi Prasad Nalwa, 55, a resident of Satasidham-7 died when a large wooden log crushed him on Sunday. Nalwa breathed his last when the wooden log fell on him as he was cutting a tree in the local Pathivara Community forest in Jhapa district, the Jhiljhile Area Police Office said. Meanwhile, Chandrakala Khadka, 75 of Lakhanpur-2, Jhapa was killed in a road accident in the East-West highway on Saturday night, Damak Area Police Office said, adding, Khadka died on the way while being rushed to hospital after a jeep hit her. — HNS
Rhino found dead
CHITWAN: A female rhinocerous of about 20 years old with its horn and hoof was found dead at the Tower Block area of the Kumroj Madhyabarti Community Forest on Sunday after remains of 30 months old rhino were recovered in the Lami Lake area of Chitwan National Park four days ago. According to the CNP eastern sector Sauraha, the rhinocerous might have been gunned down by the poachers some 5 days ago. Eight rhinos have been killed after the counting of rhinocerous in the district. — HNS
Food poisoning
SIRAHA: Some three dozen people at a Dalit settlement in Siraha’s Jamdaha VDC have fallen ill after attending a wedding feast on Saturday night. “Over 40 persons on the groom’s side have caught dysentery and fever,” Pashupati Yadav, a local health worker said, adding, “They are suspected of having food poisoning.” Condition of Lakhpati Sada, Binod Sada, Rebi Sada, Ram Babu Sada, Sonafi Sada and Bramha Sada is critical, Yadav said, adding, symptoms
of dysentery, vomiting, fever and stomach ache had been diagnosed with the patients. “The ailment seems to have been caused by unhygienic food,” Yadav said, adding that medicine was in short supply in the area. — HNS
