Five arrested

NEPALGUNJ: Nepal Army personnel on Wednesday arrested five armed persons on the charge of poaching in Bardiya National Park. A team led by Lieutenant Govinda Rana of the Bhurigoan range post held them with two guns and hide of spotted deer. The arrested are Gopilal Tahru, Bhojlal Tharu, Kul Bahadur Pariyar, Amar Tharu and Bhangi of Neulapur, Bardiya. — HNS

YF cadre attacked

DANG: An unidentified gang attacked Lamahi coordinator of the CPN-UML affiliated Youth Force (YF) Arjun Gurung on Wednesday, police said. Protesting the attack, YF disrupted traffic movement on the East-West Highway and shut the Lamahi bazaar. Gurung, who sustained injuries on his head, has been taken to Nepalgunj for treatment. CPN-UML’s Rapti Zonal Coordination Committee secretary Chhabilal Woli has deman-ded action against the attackers. — HNS

VDC offices shut

BARA: Demanding the safe release of Siraha’s Bhediya VDC secretary Rameshwor Singh, VDC secretaries halted works in 98 VDCs of Bara district on Wednesday. Issuing a release, the Bara chapter of VDC Secretaries’ Right Protection Centre urged local administration, human right activists, civil society and journalists to find whereabouts of the abducted and facilitate his release. A gang had abducted Singh on Saturday. — HNS
