Truck-hit kills one

BIRATNAGAR: Thirteen-year-old Dorje Tamang of Dharan-13 died after a truck hit him in Duhabi-3 along the Koshi highway on Sunday. Police said Tamang was walking on the road with his friends after taking drugs in India’s Jogbani. The truck driver has absconded, police said. — HNS

Three robbers held

SIRAHA: Police arrested three robbers from Sukhipur VDC-4 in Siraha district on Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Mahadev Yadav of Jamdaha-4, Laxman Sahani of Asanpur-6 and Jivan Kumar Chaurasiya of Asanpur-7. Police said they were caught with the help of locals. Among the trio, Yadav is an escapee. — HNS

Body recovered

SIRAHA: Locals of Govindapur VDC-2 recovered a decomposed body from a public well on Saturday evening. The body, whose head was decapitated, was of Bhola Safi of Bhediya, police said, adding that the body was identified from a tattoo in its hand. Safi had been living in his wife’s maternal home in Govindapur. He had been missing since August 15. — HNS

Peace journey

Sarlahi: Ganga Bahadur Baral returned to his home district of Sarlahi after journeying 75 districts on foot for the sake of peace. Baral (45) said he embarked on the day of Buddha Jayanti. Traffic obstructed

MANGALBARE: Workers of Federal Limbuwan State Council (Palungwa group) on Sunday obstructed traffic in several places in Ilam on Mechi Highway demanding release of their six workers arrested on Saturday. Following the obstruction, vehicles remained off the Birtamod-Taplejung road. The bandh callers did not even spare ambulances. Hundreds of passengers have been stranded on the road. — RSS

Strike continues

Nawalparasi: People of Nawalparasi continued to block the East-West Highway today to protest the death of four persons in an accident. Locals had called the protest after a bus crushed four persons yesterday. Irate locals blocked the road in Amarapure on Sunday demanding compensation for the bereaved family and punishment to the killer driver. Despite several attempts made by the local administration to open traffic, no agreement had been reached on opening the highway as of this evening. — RSS
