EC’s appeal

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission on Wednesday called 27 parties, which contested the Constituent Assembly election under the proportional representation system, to furnish details of their expenditure. The EC asked the parties to clarify why they had not forwarded details of the expenditure till now. The parties were supposed to submit details of their expenditure by June 11. — HNS

Maoists rally

SIRAHA: The Maoist-affiliated Madhesi Rastriya Mukti Morcha (MRMM) cadres organised a rally here on Wednesday against the proposal on making CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the first President of the country. MRMM central member Chandan Singh also demanded that pro-republican leader Ram Raja Prasad Singh be appointed as the President of the country. — HNS

Exams put off

MAHENDRANAGAR: District Education Office, Kanchanpur, has postponed the first tri-quarterly examinations, which were supposed to begin from June 27, due to the lack of textbooks. District Education Officer Lokmani Joshi said the decision was taken, as classes were disrupted due to the non availability of textbooks. He said the schools had already been informed about the decision. — HNS

One killed

BARA: One person was killed and two others injured when they were struck by lightning in in Prastota Belhiya-6 of Bara district on Tuesday night. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Ajaya Shah, 13. Bikky Shah, 6, and Dhiraj Shah, 3, who sustained serious burn injuries are being treated in Birgunj. — HNS

Action initiated

SANKHUWASABHA: Chief of Sankhuwasabha land revenue office Gopal Shibakoti has been sent to Land Revenue Department for departmental action on Wednesday. Shibakoti had taken Rs 10,000 bribe from Rajendra Kumar Kumal and Tularam Kumal of Khandbari-13 while transferring ownership of land on Tuesday. YCL activists had arrested him yesterday. — HNS

Airport locked

SURKHET: Residents of Karnali zone on Wednesday padlocked the Surkhet Airport to protest against the expensive cargo fare and the alleged irregularities in air service in the zone. Residents of Karnali zone led by of Karnali Ekata Samaj padlocked the airport and said the lockout would go on until their demands were met. — HNS
