Storm wreaks havoc

ITAHARI: Fourteen persons were injured when a storm lashed Sunsari district on Friday. The storm also blew away roofs of over 200 houses in Itahari municipality, the police said, adding that seven persons were hurt there. Seven were injured in Jhumka, Khanar, Hasposa, Duhabi and Inaruwa of Sunsari. The storm also blew away the roof of building of Janta Multiple Campus in Itahari-5. — HNS

Six Indians injured

TANAHU: Six Indians were hurt when a jeep heading to Pokhara from Gorkha met with an accident near Tharpu in Chhang VDC of Tanahun district on Saturday. The injured were rushed to Pokhara for treatment, the police said, adding that speeding caused the mishap. — HNS

Blast at police camp

UDAYPUR: Activists of Kirant Janabadi Workers’ Party detonated a bomb targeting the APF base camp in Beltar bazaar in Udaypur on Friday. However, no casualty was reported. They also warned government staff in Beltar to quit. Pathrey Rai, 25, of Beltar-1 was held on the suspicion of involvement in the blast. —HNS

Jwala fears for life

LAHAN: President of Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha Jwala Singh on Saturday claimed that some people sacked from his group were plotting to kill him. Calling JTMM-J cadres to remain alert, he said the people opposed to the liberation of Tarai convened a secret meeting in Birgunj and conspired to kill him. Issuing a press release, Singh also expressed surprise over some news reports that he has been ousted by his party cadres. — RSS

Boy crushed

BIRGUNJ: Nitesh Hajra (14), son of Rambalak Hajra of Bindyabasini-8, Parsa district, died on Saturday when a paddy-laden bullock cart ran over him in Bindyabasini VDC. Police said the cart had been seized, but the driver managed to flee. — HNS

Singh’s warning

RUPANDEHI: CPN (Mashal) general secretary Mohan Bikram Singh said on Saturday federal system will encourage anarchy and give rise to separatism. He warned that there was a threat to democracy from “another centralist dictatorial force.” — HNS
