NAB’s support

Kathmandu: The Association of the Blind (NAB) has distributed 74, 903 Braille study materials across the country. According to general secretary of the Association Kumar Thapa, Braille text books, calendars, white sticks, cassette players and Braille type writers were distributed. The Association said it had been conducting an integrated special education program in 70 schools of 20 districts targeting the blind children. It said that 467 blind children have benefited from the program. Out of some 6, 407 blind people identified by the CBR project running in 14 districts of the country, 4,653 had been rehabilitated, said Thapa. He also asked the government to frame policies for the uplift of the visually impaired. — RSS.

PLA fighter killed

Mahottari: A People's Liberation Army (PLA) combatant of Rambrikshya Memorial Brigade in the district died on Friday, according to the police. Dil Bahadur Sunuwar of Ladavir VDC-3 in Sindhuli district died when a log which he was carrying fell upon him. He died while being rushed to a local hospital for treatment, the police said. — HNS

PLA support to school

CHITWAN: Members of the Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA), Third Division, have donated Rs 350,000 to help run the higher secondary wing of a school in eastern Chitwan. The PLA combatants based in Jutpani came to the aid of Prithvi Secondary School in its bid to run higher secondary classes. Abiral, spokesperson for the Division, handed the amount over amidst a guardians' meeting held on Thursday. Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa also provided Rs 105,000 to the school, according to the School Management Committee. — RSS

Hospitals given beds

NUWAKOT: Nuwakot District Development Committee (DDC), under its health assistance programme, has supplied some hospitals with beds in the district. Amidst a function oraganised here on Friday, the DDC committee distributed 42 beds worth Rs 350,000 among the District Hospital and all Aayurved Health Centres (AHC) in the district. According to programme officer Pushkar Sharma Rimal, the hospital received 32 common beds and two special beds while the AHCs got eight beds. — RSS
