Deadline extended
KASKI: The District Police Office Kaski has extended the deadline for one week for filing applications to the post of temporary police to provide security in the constituent assembly election as the filed applications did not meet the demanded numbers. Only 754 people, including 57 female candidates, have filed the application though the office had published the vacancy notice twice. The decision was made after following direction of the Police Headquarters as there were few candidates for the temporary police posts all over the country. Those selected would be mobilised for security of the polling booths during the April 10 Constituent Assembly election by providing a 15-day training and they would be given
Rs 10,000 as salary. — RSS
Minister in Geneva
KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan had a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louis Arbour, on the sidelines of the 7th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Wednesday. During the meet, Pradhan apprised the High Commissioner of the recent political developments and preparations underway for the CA polls. Pradhan also met United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday. She conveyed to the Secretary General that Nepal was looking forward to the early relocation of United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Kathmandu. — RSS
NC activist released
ITAHARI: Nepali Congress cadreTirtha Bhandari was released on Wednesday. Bhandari was abducted a month ago by an unidentified gang from his hometown. Abductors released him from India’s Birpur. Bhandari said he was released without paying any amount as ransom. He said he was abducted by the cadres of Jwala Singh and Madhesi Virus Killers groups. Earlier, the abductors had asked Rs 2.5 millions ransom from Bhandari. — HNS
Gurkhas’ protest
NEW DELHI: Former Indian Army and Gurkha soldiers staged a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest the Indian government’s decision to grant autonomy to Darjeeling district of West Bengal state under the provision of the Sixth Schedule of the constitution. Along with more than 300 former Gurkha soldiers, 100 former officers staged the protest. — HNS
ATMM bandh hits life
RAJBIRAJ: The three-day Saptari district bandh called by the Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha (ATMM) has crippled life in the district. Factories, educational institutions and transportation were shut on the first day of the bandh on Wednesday. Most of the shops remained closed here. The ATMM has said it would continue its armed struggle until the Tarai is declared a free state. The ATMM has boycotted the CA polls and is learnt to have called the general strike to obstruct the process for registration of election candidates. — HNS

BIRATNAGAR: A MJF CWC meet organised here on Wednesday night has publicised the names of 108 members for candidacy of the CA polls. MJF coordinator Upendra Yadav would give his candidacy from Sunsari constituency no 5 and Morang constituency no 5. Minister without portfolio Sujata Koirala would be his opponent from Sunsari constituency no 5. NC district president Amrit Aryal and CPN-UML’s Mina Yadav have been candidates from Morang constituency no 5. — HNS
