School reopens

SANKHUWASABHA: Bagishwori Higher Secondary School at Dhungedhara in Khandbari reopened after five days on Thursday. The school had been padlocked by locals protesting the teacher selection procedure. Locals, along with applicants, accused the school administration of choosing the teachers under the Maoists’ pressure. The school management committee decided to reopen the school following an agreement with the agitators.— HNS


Lightning kills farmer

ITAHARI: A farmer was killed when he was struck by a lightning in Sunsari's Prakaspur on Wednesday night. Ashok Chandrabanshi, a resident of Prakashpur-5, died after he got hit by the bolt while loading a bullock cart with logs. The two bulls were also killed in the incident. —HNS

Airport closed

BHAIRAHAWA: Gautam Buddha airport in Bhairahawa has been closed for ten days for runway repairs. According to officials, the airport will be closed till May 30. The airport had earlier been shut for ten days from May 13 for the same purpose. — HNS


Murder charge

KATHMANDU: A murder case was filed in the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday against five persons including Kali Mata. They were accused of attempting to murder Shakti Basnet, personal assistant of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a few months back. — HNS
