KATHMANDU: Speaker Subas Nembang on Wednesday certified different Bills passed by the meeting of the Parliament as per Article 87 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007. The certified Bills include the Banking Fraud and Punishment Bill 2008, the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Bill 2008 and the Patan Health Sciences Academy Bill 2008, according to the Parliament Secretariat. — RSS
US team meets Rohit
BHAKTAPUR: A visiting US delegation called on chairman of the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party Narayan Man Bijukchhe at the party office here on Wednesday. The delegation comprises Kate Bateman and Alex from the US and political and economic officer at the US Embassy here, Kyla Dotson. During the meeting, they discussed the political situation in Nepal, the April 10 polls and the law and order situation. — RSS
Jailbirds’ agitation
RAJBIRAJ: Prisoners at the Saptari jail staged a torch rally at 3pm on Wednesday demanding amnesty. “We launched a stir after a meeting among local administration, civil society and rights’ decision of providing amnesty were not implemented,” said Mohamad Mushar Miya, coordinator of Prisoner’s struggle committee. Miya said relatives of the jailbirds would come in the third programme of the stir with chakkajam and self-immolation if their demands were not met. CDO Sitaram Pokhrel said the cabinet has made an attempt to ensure facilities for prisoners. — HNS

DANG: The Nepali Congress (NC) organised a public gathering in Ghorahi to make people aware of the constituent assembly polls. Addressing the gathering, acting president of the NC Sushil Koirala said: “The country will get sucked into the vortex of a protracted civil war if we do not focus on the CA polls and refrain from infighting,” he said. — HNS
