Rally for polls begins

JHAPA: Janamorcha Nepal and Madhesi Mukti Morcha-Revolutionary jointly organised a rally on Thursday for making the April 10 constituent assembly election a success. The rally began from Jhapa district headquarters Bhadrapur and would pass through Rajgarh, Jalthal and Kumarkhod to end at Gaurigunj on February 1, the organisers said. Speaking on the occasion, Jhapa district vice chairman of Janamorcha Nepal, Jyoti Singh Darlami, said the royalists were active to thwart the April 10 election. — HNS

Martyr’s wife dead

NARAYANGARH: Wife of martyr Lal Dhoj Gurung, who received martyrdom during the armed revolution of the Nepali Congress in 1961, died on martyr’s day at her residence in Bharatpur Municipality - 2 Chhetrapur on Wednesday. Ganga Devi Gurung, 84, was Lal Dhoj’s second wife. She is survived by three sons and two daughters. — HNS

Traffic halted

ILAM: Federal Limbuwan State Council halted traffic on Ilam section of Mechi Highway demanding release of its cadres from Thursday. Police had nabbed FLSC cadres — Ganesh Angdembe and Sharan Phago — on the charge of collecting district export tax from Ilam’s Kolbung on Wednesday. They obstructed traffic in Ilam, Panchthar’s Simana Ranke bazaar, Ilam’s Fikkal bazaar and Kolbung’s Kiteni. Meanwhile, the protesting cadres vandalised a passenger bus heading from Taplejung to Jhapa for defying the bandh, police said. Another cadre, Sunil Limbu, was arrested in this connection. — HNS

Prachanda in Chitwan

CHITWAN: Maoist supremo Prachanda and central CPN-Maoist leaders Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Post Bahadur Bogati and Hari Bhakta Kande are in Chitwan for the internal training of the party. According to a party source, some 3,000 members under district committees and four state committees of 23 districts, including 19 districts of the central region of the party, will participate in the training on Friday. — HNS

Body found

BARA: Police found an unidentified body of a youth in his thirties from the dam on Tengraha river in Manaharwa VDC-6 on Thursday. The body had a bullet injury in the chest and has not been identified, PI Dipendra Panjiyar, of district police office Bara said. Local residents had informed the police about the body. Investigations are underway, police said. — HNS

Civilian shot at

SARLAHI: A civilian was injured when a gang of armed robbers shot at him at Sisautiya VDC here on Wednesday night. The police said Prajal Mandal, 24, of Sisautiya VDC-2 was injured in the incident. Though a police team reached the site, the dacoits managed to flee, the police added. A local, Dilchand Roy, said the gang also looted property worth Rs 50,000 from the houses of Radharam Mandal and Raju Mandal. — HNS
