Decrease in CMR

KATHMANDU: Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Child Mortality Rate (CMR) has decreased in the last ten years. According to Central Child Welfare Committee, IMR had decreased by 48 and CMR by 61per thousand children annually within the past decade. According to various reports related to children’s health, it showed that women who were educated and marrying after 20 years of age were among the main factors behind the decrease. The committee’s report shows that vaccine campaigns of various diseases —- BCG, DPT, polio, measles, TT— given as per long-term health policy were also the reasons behind the decrease in CMR. It also states that four out of five children have taken all the vaccines.
