CoAS to visit India
NEW DELHI : Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Rookmangud Katawal is scheduled to pay an official visit to India from December 9 to 16. According to the Nepali embassy in New Delhi, Katwal will begin his visit from Dehradun. General Katawal will be a guest at the Platinum Jubilee Ceremony of the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the ceremony on December 10. — HNS
YCL says sorry
BIRATNAGAR: President of the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League Ganesh Man Pun on Friday offered apology to the physicians and officials of the Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar, who were abducted and beaten up by YCL cadres a few weeks ago. Pun, who arrived here in connection with the Republican Yo-uth March Campaign, offered apology at an interaction held in Koshi Zonal Hospital. Earlier, YCL cadres distributed fruits to 400 patients in the hospital. They also carried out a sanitation drive in the hospital and Mahendra Morang Campus. — HNS
Explosives destroyed
NAWALPARASI: Landmines, socket bombs and grenades amassed by the Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) during the decade-long conflict were destroyed on Friday on the premises of the PLA’s fourth division cantonment at Jhyaltunga in Nawalparasi district. Division commander Yam Bahadur Adhikari alias Prateeksha said that the explosives were destroyed as per an agreement between UNMIN officials and the division’s representatives. — HNS
Lockout lifted
RAJBIRAJ: The lockout at the Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC), Rajbiraj, was lifted on Friday following an agreement between the office and the locals to waive the water tariff from customers who have not been getting the water supply. The office had been locked out four days ago. The talks were held between NWSC chief at Rajbiraj office Arbinda Kumar Karna, MJF central member Shailendra Prasad Shah and NSP-A central member Manish Kumar Suman, among others. — HNS

RAJBIRAJ: A gang of armed dacoits looted cash and gold amounting to one lakh rupees from the house of Shiv Shankar Chaudhari at Dhantitole of Malhanma VDC, Saptari district, on Thursday night, police said, adding that a search for the dacoits is going on. — HNS
35 jailbirds fall ill
RAJBIRAJ: Thirty-five jailbirds in the Saptari jail have been suffering from eye diseases for the last few days. They have been suffering from excessive watering, pain and reddening of the eyes, said Sukhram Yadav, a jailbird, adding, nothing has been done for their treatment yet. “The jail administration said it lacked funds for treating the prisoners,” Yadav said. Acting chief of the jail Bhagwat Yadav said a letter has been sent to higher authorities to make provisions for their treatment. He added a team of doctors is expected to arrive for their treatment within a few days. — HNS
