Tusker mauls three

SIRAHA: Three persons were killed when a wild elephant attacked them in Laxmipur over the last 24 hours in Siraha. The dead were identified as Ram Kripal Mochi, 55, of Tagrgena and Tulsi Mahato, 40, of Bhadaiya. The same elephant mauled Manvir Yadav, 56, of Kabilasi 5, to death on Monday. A local, Amiri Yadav, said the elephant attacked Malwa Paswan, 47, of Laxmipur 2, on Monday. — HNS

Mishap kills one

HETAUDA: A petrol pump attendant and resident of Bara, Harendra Yadav, who was among four injured when a tanker collided with a truck at Darimtar of Hetauda on Sunday, died in course of treatment on Monday. — HNS

Criminal arrested

BIRGUNJ: Indian criminal Nand Kishor Yadav alias Bhanu, who, along with two other criminals, had escaped from police custody two-and-a-half months ago, was rearrested on Sunday. SSP Ramesh Shekhar Bajracharya said Bihar police assisted in Yadav’s capture. — HNS

Threat flayed

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers’ Union (NTU) has condemned the Limbuwan Mukti Morcha for seeking donations from a teacher and threatening him for failing to meet its demand. The NTU said in a statement on Monday that some people claiming to be associated with the Morcha demanded that Tiwendra Raj Chapagain, president of the Terhathum chapter of the NTU, pay them Rs 4 lakh within four days. “They threatened to kill him as he could not meet their demand,” the Nepal Teachers’ Union said. — HNS

Donation for school

LAMJUNG: Two organisations Choice Nepal and World Vision Lamjung have donated Rs 2 lakh each for the construction of Kalika primary school building in Bansachaur of Lamjung Banjhakhet - 9. Till now 90 per cent work of the building with four rooms has been completed. Altogether 102 households of the village have donated voluntary labour for the construction. Headmaster of the school, Lekhnath Sharma said that the organisations have also provided the stationary materials to the school. — HNS

Hearing begins

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Monday began hearing on whether to vacate its stay order issued on November 14 directing the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to stop the process of repairing and overhauling its Boeing 757. A division bench of Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Ram Kumar Prasad Shah began the hearing on Monday. The Nepal Airlines Corporation had sought apex court order to vacate its stay order to allow it to repair and overhaul the Boeing by Ameco, a Chinese company, and prevent losses that have run into millions of rupees. — HNS
