Kidnap suspects held

BARA: Police on Monday arrested two persons at Parsa district’s Dhore on the charge of being involved in kidnapping a child. Dipendra Sahani and Muntun Sahani were arrested for necessary investigation on the suspicion of their involvement in kidnapping Sri Bhagwan Patel’s son Ajaya Patel, 7, of Bara district’s Benauli-5 on Saturday, police said. — HNS

Diarrhoea claims two

Dhangadhi: Diarrhoea claimed the lives of two persons in Sappata VDC-9 of Bajura on Sunday. Sari BK, 30, and Harka Miyal, 45, who had been suffering from diarrhoea, died on Sunday, said Shankar Budha who came to Dhangadhi from the affected area. He added over 30 persons were suffering from Diarrhoea in Sappata VDC and Phayal village. — HNS

PLA verification

NAWALPARASI: The UNMIN will begin second phase of verification of the Maoists’ people’s liberation army (PLA) at the fourth division in Nawalparasi’s Rakachuli-4, Jhyaltungdanda will begin from November 1, the division said. During the first phase of verification 5,067 Maoists’ soldiers were verified in the division, said a source at the division. — HNS

Jeep-hit kills child

BIRGUNJ: A girl child died on the spot while two others were injured when a jeep hit them at Rajat Jayanti Chowk in Bypass road on Monday evening. The jeep heading from Birgunj to Raxaul hit a rickshaw and killed seven-year-old Khusbu Khatun, the Parsa district police office said. Injured Binda Prasad Sonar, 30, of Raxaul and Saha Dev Chaudhary, 32, of Bara’s Amuwa VDC-5 were undergoing treatment at the Narayani sub-regional hospital. — HNS

Flight to Singapore

KATHMANDU: Silk Air, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, launched a direct flight to Singapore on Tuesday. It will operate flights thrice a week. An Airbus 320, with the total seat capacity of 144, landed at the Tribhuwan International Airport at 11:45 am on Sunday with 121 passengers in the Economy class and 10 in the Business class. — HNS

One killed in mishap

RAJBIRAJ: An elderly man died on the spot in the Mauri Khola bridge of Bak Dhuwa Village Development Committee in Saptari district when the truck (Sa 1 Kha 290) hit him on Tuesday morning. The old man has not been identified yet, the Kanchanpur area police office. The truck loaded with sand was heading to west. Following the accident, irate locals disrupted the traffic along the Mahendra Highway for 2 hours. — HNS

Highway reopens

ILAM: The traffic on the Jhapa-Ilam road section along the Mechi Highway reopened on Tuesday morning. The drivers and labourers had disrupted the highway for last three days demanding security for transport staffers. They had disrupted the highway when an armed gang attacked taxi drivers, Gopal Tamang and Kabir Ra, on Saturday . The highway was reopened after the police administration promised to punish the accused. — HNS

Four abductees freed

SIRAHA: Four persons, abducted by the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit (JTMM-G) and Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Jwala (JTMM-J) from separate places, were released. Suresh Prasad Sharma, 45, officer at the Agriculture Development Bank, of Radhopur-9 Birpur Tole was released on Tuesday after two days. JTMM-G cadres released him at an undisclosed location. Three footballers of Lalpur-3 Todake Tole abducted by the JTMM-J were released on Monday. 24-year-old Bibek Rai of Lalpur-3 Todake Tole, 23-year-old Bishwas Rai and 27-year-old Shyam Kumar Roy were released at an undisclosed location. All the three footballers were abducted on Friday. — HNS

Poudel, Powell meet

KATHMANDU: US Ambassador to Nepal, Nancy Powell, on Tuesday called on Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, Ram Chandra Poudel, at the latter’s office. They discussed matters relating to contemporary political issues and possibility of US cooperation in the peace process in Nepal. Ambassador Powell assured that the cooperation being received from the US government would continue in the future, the Ministry said in a statement. — RSS
